If you ask a Moab local when one of the best times of year is to visit, October is going to be pretty high on the list.
The heat of summer has usually faded, mornings are crisp, the cottonwoods along the Colorado River begin changing color, and the red rock seems to get even redder under the lower fall sun. More importantly, October is a month when there is almost always something happening in Moab.
In 2026, the October calendar includes mountain biking, trail running, local arts, Celtic culture, Jeep events, community activities and plenty of reasons to spend a few extra days exploring southeastern Utah.

Here are some of the biggest Moab events happening in October 2026, plus a few ideas for turning your trip into a bigger Moab adventure.
Outerbike Moab
October 2 to 4, 2026
October starts with one of the biggest mountain bike weekends of the fall.
Outerbike Moab returns October 2 through 4. The event gives riders an opportunity to test bikes from leading manufacturers while riding some of the trails that made Moab one of the world’s best known mountain bike destinations.
The 2026 schedule includes riding at Slickrock, Navajo Rocks and the Mag 5 area, along with shuttles, lunches, group rides and opportunities to meet riders and bike industry representatives.
If you are coming to Moab for Outerbike, consider adding another day to your trip. Your legs might be ready for a break from pedaling, but that does not mean you need to stop exploring.
Renting a Jeep gives you an entirely different perspective of Moab. Spend a recovery day exploring routes such as Hurrah Pass and Chicken Corners, Gemini Bridges, Long Canyon or the Shafer Trail, depending on current road and weather conditions.
It is a pretty good combination: ride Moab’s famous singletrack one day and explore its backcountry Jeep roads the next.
Arches Marathon and Half
October 3, 2026
Runners also take over the desert during the first weekend of October.
The Arches Marathon and Half takes place October 3 and offers 15K, half marathon, marathon and 50K distances.
Despite the name, the race isn’t run through Arches National Park. The courses begin near the Behind the Rocks Wilderness Study Area and take runners through classic Moab desert terrain with views of sandstone formations, Picture Frame Arch and the La Sal Mountains.
For runners traveling with family or friends, a Jeep rental can also give the rest of the group something to do while you are racing. After race day, make it a family adventure and spend a day seeing a completely different side of Moab.
Arts & Ag Market
October 9, 2026
Not every October event requires running 50 miles or riding Slickrock.
The final Moab Arts & Ag Market of 2026 takes place Friday, October 9, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Swanny City Park.
This free, family friendly market features local and regional artists, produce, food, activities and live music.
It is also a great example of how we like to spend a fall day in Moab.
Head into the backcountry in the morning, return to town in the afternoon, clean up and then walk over to the park for dinner, music and a chance to experience a little bit of the local Moab community.
That combination of adventure during the day and downtown Moab in the evening is one of the reasons October is such a good time to visit.
Moab 240
October 9 to 13, 2026
If a marathon sounds a little too easy, Moab apparently has an answer for that too.
The Moab 240 Endurance Run begins October 9. The race travels roughly 240 miles through desert, canyon and mountain terrain surrounding Moab. The 2026 race is already sold out, which gives you an idea of how popular this event has become in the ultrarunning world.
Even if you aren’t running, it is an impressive event to follow.
Visitors should also remember that major outdoor events can mean increased traffic and activity on roads and trails around Moab. Give racers, volunteers and event vehicles plenty of room and always follow temporary signs or closures.
Scots on the Rocks Moab Celtic Festival
October 16 to 18, 2026
Bagpipes and red rocks might not sound like an obvious combination, but somehow they work.
The Scots on the Rocks Moab Celtic Festival returns October 16 through 18 at the Center Street Ballpark in downtown Moab.
The festival brings together Celtic music and culture with pipe bands, Highland dancing, athletic competitions, clans, vendors and entertainment.
Because the festival is right in Moab, it is easy to combine it with a day of exploring.
One idea is to rent a Jeep in the morning and explore Gemini Bridges and Long Canyon, then return to Moab for the festival. Another option is a scenic trip along Highway 128 followed by an afternoon or evening downtown.
Canyonlands Ultra
October 24, 2026
October’s trail running calendar isn’t finished yet.
The Canyonlands Ultra takes place October 24 with distances ranging from 15K all the way to 100K.
The course travels through classic Moab terrain near Behind the Rocks with sandy washes, double track, sandstone domes and views toward the La Sal Mountains.
For anyone traveling to Moab for the race, give yourself another day afterward if you can. One of the biggest mistakes people make when visiting Moab is scheduling every minute of their trip before they arrive.
October weather often creates those days when you simply want to stay outside.

Moab Museum: Stories of Migration and Home
Opening October 22, 2026
Moab is much more than trails and national parks.
On October 22, the Moab Museum opens How Did We Get Here? Stories of Migration and Home, the final exhibition in its 2026 series commemorating America’s 250th anniversary. The exhibit explores migration, movement, family history, connection and the meaning of home.
A visit to the museum is worth adding to any Moab itinerary, especially if you want to better understand how this small desert community evolved from Indigenous homeland to farming community, uranium boomtown and eventually an international outdoor recreation destination.
Jeep Jamboree Moab
October 29 to 31, 2026
October ends appropriately for Moab: with Jeeps.
The 28th Moab Jeep Jamboree takes place October 29 through 31.
Participants spend Friday and Saturday exploring Moab’s famous four wheel drive trails with organized trail rides ranging in difficulty from moderate routes to serious technical terrain. The 2026 event lists trail ratings from 3 through 9.
Even if you aren’t participating in Jeep Jamboree, seeing Jeeps rolling around town at the end of October feels pretty natural around here.
